Admission Requirements (RN to BS in Nursing online)

The University of Rhode Island's Online RN to BS Program has specific requirements that applicants must meet to enroll. Please read the admission guidelines to ensure you qualify.

RN to BS in Nursing Admissions Criteria

Note: URI's RN to BS in Nursing is not available to residents in some states. Please check to make sure it is available to residents in your state prior to applying for admission.

Requirements for admission to the online RN to BS in Nursing Program are as follows:

  • Complete the online application and submit the non-refundable $65 application fee
  • Associate degree or diploma in Nursing from an ACEN accredited program
  • Minimum GPA 2.6
  • Official transcripts from all institutions attended
  • Active registered nursing license (unencumbered)

Please note: Applications are not reviewed until all materials are received by the Office of Admission. For CCRI nursing students ONLY:

Students in their last semester of RN courses can apply to the online RN to BS program without submitting an active nursing license. These students will be admitted once proof of degree is obtained and students must submit proof of (unencumbered) RN licensure prior to entering NUR 347, 443 and 444.


Admission Instructions

This process is for students who were never formally admitted and subsequently attended the University.

  • Visit the URI Online website (http://online.uri.edu)
  • Immediately upon submitting your application, pay the $65 application fee.

When completing the Application: You must complete Application in its entirety

  • The application must be submitted with your FULL LEGAL NAME.
  • Please list all name(s) you have used in the past.
  • You must list all post-secondary institutions attended whether or not you desire or expect to receive credit.

Once your application has been submitted please submit the following documents:

  • Electronic or official printed transcripts from all post-secondary institutions whether or not you desire or expect to receive credit for such work. Electronic transcripts should be e-mailed.
  • Email copy of your valid nursing license.

All documents should be emailed to onlinenursingadmission@uri.edu.


Readmission Instructions

This process is for students who were previously admitted and subsequently attended the University.

Complete Readmission Application:

When Completing the Readmission Application: You must complete the Application in its entirety

  • The application must be submitted with your FULL LEGAL NAME.
  • Please list all name(s) you have used or in the past.
  • You must list all post-secondary institutions attended whether or not you desire or expect to receive credit.
  • You must submit a Personal Statement with the following information
    • Why you wish to study Nursing at the University.
    • What experiences have you had since you previously attended URI.

Once your application is complete:

  • Print and sign the application.
  • Submit the application with official printed transcripts from all post-secondary institutions (whether or not you desire or expect to receive credit for such work) and a copy of your valid nursing license.
